Update: the medical evacuation mission is proceeding as planned, with a few minor delays. This Washington Post Article has a few more public details. I hope to be able to share an insider’s perspective as I am permitted. With the medevac mission proceeding as planned, crew morale is still high. This issue is about our midwinter celebrations, on a happier note.

Here in the southern hemisphere, in Antarctica, we are in the middle of winter. In fact, “midwinter” is celebrated across the entire continent (unique for a holiday!). We even get greetings from remote stations up north who empathize with our plight, and President Obama himself. It is tradition to have a delicious dinner, with saved delicacies, and to send around a group photo to all the other stations on continent to celebrate. I’ll share these here. You’ll get to see a photo of most of the people currently living in Antarctica! There are many nations represented.
